Renting or buying films
Pathé Thuis is mainly about renting films. When you rent a movie and add it to your account, it will remain available for thirty days. Once you have started the movie, you will have 48 hours to watch it. Then it disappears from your account. You rent a movie from 2.49 to 4.99 euros in standard quality. For higher quality you often pay € 1.00 extra. Standard quality in this case is SD. So you have to pay a little extra for HD (high definition, high quality).
It is also possible to buy movies if you want to watch them more than once. Movies you buy are always more expensive, because there are no restrictions. The price you pay for such a film differs per title. Sometimes this is the only option for a particular movie, as no rental rights are available at that time. Something like that could change in the future. Most of the films on Pathé Thuis are both for rent and for sale, so in most cases you have both options at your disposal.
Paying at Pathé Thuis
There are four ways for your films at Pathé Thuis. payment: via a voucher, iDeal, PayPal or a credit card. This applies to the website. If you arrange it that way, you can view the content on all devices. If you want to rent directly from a smart device, you have the options PayPal and vouchers available. A voucher is available for ten euros, so you can watch at least two films. For example, when you link your credit card or PayPal, you automatically pay per movie you rent.
You only pay for what you watch, so there are no hidden costs. So make sure you have a payment method linked to your account in advance, so that you can check the movies you want without any disturbance. There is also a side note for Xbox users. To rent movies via the Xbox, you need a linked payment method from Xbox. You can do this by linking a credit card or a valid PayPal account to your Xbox Live account on your Xbox. Unfortunately you cannot use your vouchers in this app.
Currently (April 2020) Pathé Thuis has a promotion where you will receive a free movie every day until the end of April. Every day Pathé Thuis shares a code for a film via his own social media channels (note: only in the Stories of Instagram and Facebook). That code is shared around 9:00 am and is valid until 11:59 pm. The code allows you to view the film that the service has selected for you. You do need an account with the Home service for this, of course that makes sense. You can read how this works above.
You can use the code that you find in the Stories (the short stories at the top of your Instagram and Facebook feed) as follows. Enter the code via www.pathe-thuis.nl/kado and click on “Redeem”. Click on “Watch movie” and then on “Watch from € 0”. Now choose SD or HD quality. When you’ve done all that, you can watch the movie right away or save it for later. These films are also on your account for thirty days and disappear after 48 hours from the first viewing moment. You can find the film under My films when you are logged in.
