The Amazon Prime Video video streaming service has been available for a while now, so it’s time to check it out: is the service worth it? In any case, the streaming service has a ton of exclusive content, but there are also other extras to take into account.
Amazon Prime Video
Amazon Prime Video is a video streaming service from online retailer Amazon. The service allows you to watch a lot of films and series that you have probably already seen, but do not forget to browse the exclusive content in the meantime. The service has not been active in the Netherlands as long as, for example, Netflix, but it has been around a lot longer than, for example, Disney + . Recently Prime (Amazon’s online subscription) with Prime Video was officially launched in the Netherlands for € 2.99 per month.
Before that, the video streaming service, with the linked online subscription, was already available in the Netherlands via the German version of the Amazon website. The content was viewable, but there was not always a Dutch version or Dutch subtitles available. That has changed since March. This makes the service much more accessible than ever before. A salient difference is that the Dutch subscription cannot be paid with iDeal; so you will have to use a credit card for that.
Content on Amazon Prime Video
The Amazon Prime Video offering is all that. Think of Star Trek: Picard (the only way you can now watch that series legally in the Netherlands), The Expanse (the first few seasons of which are also on Netflix) and exclusive and homemade series such as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Man in the High Castle, Good Omens (image) and of course The Boys.
What a lot of people may not yet know is that there is now also a wide range of Dutch films and series can be found on Amazon Prime Video. Think of Bon Bini Holland 2, Jiskefet (season one to eleven), In love with Cuba, Max Havelaar, Majesty, Super Miss, Kruimeltje and De Snollebollekes. Moreover, there is also content for kids, often available in the Dutch version, such as Peppa Pig, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, The Penguins of Madagascar and Shrek.
It is now also clear that Amazon continues to invest heavily in exclusive content. : films and series that they make themselves, but also content for which they have scored the rights. For example, we will see the second season of Star Trek: Picard automatically among the offerings of Prime Video. This also applies to the upcoming second season of The Boys and of course the fifth season of the sci-fi series The Expanse. If you are even a bit of a geek for science fiction, then the latter series is really worth it.
Also new is the series Treadstone, which has been online since January at Amazon Prime Video. From the producers of the popular Bourne franchise, Treadstone tells the story of the origins and current actions of Operation Treadstone, the secret CIA Black Ops program that trains recruits into nearly superhuman killers through behavioral change. Also check the trailer below. Amazon also regularly announces new content, so keep an eye on the messages.
In addition, since the end of February you will also find the new Jordan Peele series Hunters on the service (a series about various Nazi fighters in 1977 New York City. What 2020 will bring is unclear. We can, for example, expect a new All or Nothing. All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur takes sports fans behind the scenes of this glorious football club and follows all the important events around the team, both on and off the pitch. The second season of Undone was also recently announced.
So all in all, we can say that Amazon is certainly not afraid to invest in content. The company has pumped out a lot of new content in recent months and the results are impressive. You may miss a few things if you prefer certain series, but that applies to every service. In any case, more content for children is being added and Dutch films and series are also slowly finding their way to Amazon Prime Video. The question is how long we have to wait for that now.
Fortunately, Amazon Prime is more than just the video streaming service Prime Video and that may well benefit the streaming service. Basically, the video streaming service is a free perk of the Prime plan. With Prime you get access to free and fast order delivery, free games and in-game items through Twitch Prime, access to Amazon Photos cloud storage service and access to Prime Lightning Deals thirty minutes earlier. Therefore, Amazon Prime can be very interesting for people who buy a lot from Amazon, use a lot of live streaming service Twitch or are looking for a cloud storage service for which they do not need anything (extra). Pay. For 2.99 euros per month you get a lot of content, options and possibilities.
