LG 2018 LCD LED TV line-up, with SK9500, SK8500 and SK8100 top models

LG brings a large number of new televisions to the Netherlands and Belgium this year. We have already discussed the 2018 oled tv line-up of the company extensively. In this article we look at the LG 2018 LCD LED TV line-up. The top models in this line-up are the SK9500-series, the SK8500-series and the SK8100-series. In this article you will find all specifications, features, model numbers and prices.

LG 2018 Super UHD TVs

The 2018 Super UHD TV series from LG consists of the SK9500, SK8500, SK8100 and SK7900 models. The top models in the SK9500 and SK8500 series are equipped with  Full-Array Local Dimming backlight (FALD), which should provide deeper blacks and improved colors. The SK9500 models have slightly more dimmable zones than the SK8500 models. With FALD backlight, the LEDs in the backlight zones can be placed closer together and spread all over the screen, in contrast to edge lighting where backlight is placed at the edges of the TV screen. The technology improves black levels and image display by turning the LEDs on and off separately. The televisions are equipped with an ips-panel that must provide a wide viewing angle.

In addition, the new Super UHD TVs with The A7 ‘Alpha’ processor that in the field of image quality for various improvements should ensure. For example, colors must be reproduced more accurately and the noise reduction has improved. There is also support for  HFR (High Frame Rate), with a maximum of 120 frames per second in 4K quality. Thanks to HFR, you lose less details with fast moving images, so it is particularly interesting for sports and games. However, since HDMI 2.1 is not present, HFR is currently only supported via streaming. Now that is not a big problem as there is hardly any content available in 120 fps. You can not display HFR in combination with HDR.

 

Furthermore, the TVs have broad support for HDR, including HDR10 and Dolby Vision, and there is support for Dolby Atmos audio. Do not expect the TV to show Dolby Atmos in all its glory; thanks to this support, the TV can transmit a Dolby Atmos signal from a streaming service in bitstream to, for example, a receiver. Of course, webOS is also present as a smart TV platform, but LG ThinQ is also being   introduced, a digital voice assistant based on the Google Assistant. With this you can control your TV by means of voice commands and also control compatible smart home products. In addition, the webOS TVs provide access to Chromecast for streaming media.

LG 2018 UHD TVs

LG also brings various UHD TVs to the Netherlands and Belgium. These models must do without the Nano Cell technology (quantum dot technology) and the A7 processor. However, all TVs have the webOS 4.0 platforms with ThingQ control. HDR support is available in the form of HLG and HDR10. All models have a 2.0 channel audio system with a power of 20 watts. The sizes range from 43-inch to 86-inch.

The SK8500 series TVs are largely comparable to the SK95 models but come with fewer dimming zones and a different design.
