At the end of September Liberty Global, the parent company of Ziggo announced the Mediabox 4. This new Horizon Mediabox can display 4K Ultra HD content and HDR content. This week it became known that the device should be available to subscribers at the beginning of 2019.

At the moment, the Horizon Mediabox 4 is being tested by a small number of customers, but in the explanation of the quarterly figures for the past quarter Ziggo announces that the media box should be officially made available to all users by the beginning of 2019.

The device can therefore display content in the 4K Ultra HD resolution, supports HDR display, can record in the Save cloud is faster than its predecessors and provides voice control with the included remote control. The hardware also has to be smaller, more economical and of course quieter than the current model. The number of connections is unfortunately being reduced. For example, there is only one ethernet port. The name Mediabox 4 will in all probability still be changed. In addition, Ziggo and the Horizon Mediabox 4 are also introducing a new streaming application.

Which 4K content Ziggo will deliver as soon as the new media box has been introduced is not clear yet. If all agreements are signed, the company could broadcast the 2018 Formula 1 matches in the high resolution.
