Although foldable smartphones do not seem to be really catching on with the general public, manufacturers continue to work on new models with a foldable display. Earlier it was the turn Samsung and Huawei. This time it is Xiaomi’s turn with the Mi Mix Fold.
When closed, the device resembles a normal smartphone with a 6.52-inch OLED screen and a 90Hz refresh rate. However, you unfold this model like a book, after which a square tablet appears. Inside we find a larger OLED panel of 8.01-inch with a resolution of 2,480 by 1,860 pixels. According to Xiaomi, you can open and close this device at least 200,000 times without any problems. The foldable smartphone comes with four speakers that have been tuned by Harman Kardon.
In terms of hardware, the Mi Mix Fold seems perfectly fine. The device comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, 12 GB or 16 GB RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB storage memory. The battery has a capacity of 5,020 mAh and you can charge this device very quickly with 67W Fast Charging. This equates to a full charge in 37 minutes.
Photography is also important on this device. There is a main camera of 108-megapixel and a 13-megapixel wide-angle camera. There is also a telemacro camera with a liquid lens. It is unclear exactly how it works, but by changing the liquid in the lens, the camera can focus better and thus bring subjects very close. The lens is therefore suitable for macro photography at short distances (3 centimeters) and as a telephoto lens at a great distance (optical zoom 3x and hybrid zoom 30x).
Price and availability of Mi Mix Fold
The big disadvantage of foldable smartphones is the price. The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold also comes with a hefty price tag of just under 1300 euros. And another drawback, for the time being, the foldable smartphone will only be released in China.
