More Xbox hardware expected?

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has released a teaser showing that Microsoft may be working on a streaming stick that works with xCloud, now part of Game Pass Ultimate. This is evident from a (protected) interview with Stratechery. The streaming stick could be plugged into a TV and allow people to play any games offered through the company’s game streaming service.

I think you’re going to see lower priced hardware as part of our ecosystem when you think about streaming sticks and other things that somebody might want to just go plug into their TV and go play via xCloud. You could imagine us even having something that we just included in the Game Pass subscription that gave you an ability to stream xCloud games to your television and buying the controller.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about such a streaming stick. According to other rumors, Microsoft intended to introduce such a product in 2016 during game fair E3, but nothing came of it at the time. Perhaps, four years later, the timing is better now that people are more used to the idea of a ‘Netflix for video games’.

This isn’t the only teaser from the interview. The Xbox boss has also talked about a new subscription for Game Pass, including Game Pass Platinum. With such a subscription you could receive the latest Xbox for free. In America you already have something like this, namely Xbox All Access. With this subscription you pay monthly for Game Pass and a console, such as the Series X or S, for a period of 24 months.
