Which OLED Panel is Offered in Samsung’s 2024 OLED TVs? An Overview

Although Samsung still has to announce details about its 2024 OLED televisions, it is now clear that the South Korean manufacturer will start a kind of panel lottery. There is a chance that you will encounter a QD OLED panel from Samsung or a Woled panel from LG Display in the new televisions. What exactly can you expect?

Samsung is launching three OLED TV series this year: the flagship S95D series, the S90D series, and the S85D series. Specific variants of the S90D series are also coming onto the market, for example, for retail chains. Samsung makes its OLED panels, the so-called QD OLED panels, but they are expensive and can only be supplied in limited sizes. As an alternative, Samsung opts for the Woled panels from LG Display, but what can you assume if you buy a 2024 Samsung OLED TV?

Let’s start with the striking statement made by FlatpanelsHD, among others, that Samsung will not tell you which type of OLED panel is used in which television. The reason behind this is that LG Display has probably stipulated that Samsung does not place the Woled technology under the QD-OLED technology and therefore treats it the same.

What does this come down to? Most likely, all top models in the S95D series will receive a new QD OLED panel from Samsung. This makes sense since the series comes in 55-inch, 65-inch and 77-inch sizes, exactly the sizes in which the QD OLED panels are produced. Things become more difficult with the S90D series. This will be a large mix of Woled and QD-OLED. The 42-inch, 48-inch, and 83-inch models come with Woled panels anyway since Samsung does not make QD OLED panels in those sizes. The 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch sizes can be supplied in both WOLED and QD-OLED, which may differ per country or specific series (S92D, for example). So this is guesswork. The S85D series is expected to consist entirely of Woled panels in 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch. Samsung will probably opt for the cheaper Woled option in this cheaper series.
