Once again the busy manufacturer Violectric is sending new products into the race: With the DHA V590-2 in the standard and pro version as well as the DHA V380-2 there are three new and powerful combination devices that combine the functions of preamplifier, headphone amplifier and DAC in one housing. A maximum of three headphones can be operated via one balanced and two unbalanced connections.
Violectric DHA V590-2 & DHA V380-2: Feature sets
From a purely sonic point of view, both devices are likely to be quite similar. A newly developed ESS / Saber ES9026 Pro, which handles data up to 32 bit / 384 kHz as well as DSD over PCM, is used for the D / A conversion.
The main differences are the interfaces and some features. The DHA V380-2 comes with three digital inputs (USB-B, Toslink, S / PDIF coaxial), two analog cinch high-level inputs and one balanced and one unbalanced output each (optional pre / post volume control).
The DHA V590-2 however, it also offers an AES / EBU digital input and another symmetrical high-level input – and it is equipped with an Alps balance controller. The Pro version of the V590-2 has a particularly sophisticated volume control: Instead of a high-quality Alps potentiometer, a 256-stage reed relay circuit is used.
Further delicacies are protective circuits against direct current, overload and overvoltage as well as a switch-on delay.
