TP Vision releases update for 4k/120 and VRR in full resolution- TP Vision today announced the rollout of an update that will enable full 4K2K resolution at 120 frames per second and VRR. Until now, the vertical resolution at 4K/120Hz and VRR has been halved. That’s good news for owners of the OLED706, OLED806– and OLED856 televisions from 2021. Unfortunately, the update will not be made available for the OLED936+ and OLED986+, last year’s top models.
update for 4k/120 and VRR in full resolution
The reason behind the choice not to include the top models in the update has to do with the hardware. The OLED+936 and OLED+986 have a double P5 image processor for additional image processing. According to TP Vision, these top models had to choose between a double chip that would not support 4K/120 at VRR or a single chip that would have that option. offer. the latter is the case with the OLED706, OLED806 and OLED856 televisions. TP Vision says that given the “very limited availability of real content with 4k120 and VRR,” the image quality benefits of the dual chip configuration outweigh the capability of full-resolution 4K/120 and VRR.
Earlier this week, TP Vision launched the OLED807 and OLED707, the new OLED TVs for 2022. However, it is not yet clear whether the 807 will already have the possibility of 4K/120 in full resolution with VRR at launch. This may be added later with a firmware update. TP Vision also promises to look into the possibility of building in 4K/120 in full resolution with VRR in future top models with two chips.
