TP Vision today announced the latest Philips televisions for 2021. The latest models for this year were presented during a virtual event, including two OLED TV series. These are the Philips OLED806 and OLED856. The two series are very similar, but in the OLED806 series we also see a 77-inch model and a 48-inch model this year.

Philips OLED806 and OLED856

The Philips OLED806 and OLED856 televisions are largely the same. The main difference is in the design and the fact that the OLED806 series comes on the market in two extra sizes. In addition to 55-inch and 65-inch, a 48-inch and a 77-inch model will also be launched.

All televisions from both series have the 5th generation P5 processor. This adds a new movie detection mode to the five existing AI categories. P5 also integrates the light sensor to ensure that the contrast for SD or HDR content is always optimized for the amount of light in the environment. The ‘anti-burn-in’ technology that Philips introduced on the OLED + 935 last year has now also been incorporated into the new OLED806 and OLED856. The technique uses a logo detection function that monitors thousands of zones. The function accurately detects static content and then gradually reduces the intensity of the local light output. This is how burning-in must be prevented.

All models include full HDMI 2.1ports, equipped with eArc, VRR (up to 120Hz), Freesync Premium Pro and Auto Game mode. HDR is of course supported, in the form of HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision and HDR10 +. There is also support for Dolby Atmos.

In terms of audio, the TVs feature a 50 Watt 2.1 channel sound system with a rear-facing bass driver supported by four passive radiators. The TVs also offer wireless DTS Play-Fi connectivity for streaming audio and multiroom. The smart TV package will also be delivered by Google this year, in the form of Android TV 10. Google TV is not yet being used by Philips. The TVs are compatible with both Google Assistant (via push-to-talk on the remote) and Works with Alexa.

Also this year, the 800 series OLED TVs will be equipped with a premium remote control with recessed and illuminated buttons in a metallized finish. For a luxurious look, the sides and back of the remote are wrapped in leather from Scottish leather specialist Muirhead.

Both the OLED806 and OLED856 share the same bezel-less design with a metal outer frame. And both models have a four-sided Ambilight on the back. The OLED806 features metal two-tone ‘stick’ feet, while the OLED856 has a VA corner with metal dark chrome T-stand.
