Amazon Studios today announced the sixth and final season of the Amazon Original series The Expanse. The company announcement regarding The Expanse’s sixth season has made this before the fifth season has been launched on Amazon Prime Video. Members of that video streaming service can now check out the first four seasons; the fifth season will be online from December 16 next. New episodes will then appear every week. The season will end on February 3, 2021. The series is based on James SA Corey’s best-selling books.

Located in a colonized solar system, The Expanse has a longstanding conflict with the governments of Earth, Mars and the galaxy. The crew of the Rocinante – an illegally kept fighter plane – stumbles upon a grand plot and a mysterious alien technology that threatens to disrupt the balance of power and the fate of humanity. The series is a realistic sci-fi adventure that explores the vision of humanity’s path against the backdrop of the entire universe. The origin of the series is a combination of science and fiction and it is an in-depth investigation into the most critical and pressing issues of today, according to the creators of the series.

The Expanse is based on James SA Corey’s popular science fiction novels, developed and scripted by Academy Award-nominated writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. The executive producers are Naren Shankar, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Laura Lancaster, Sharon Hall, Sean Daniel, Jason Brown, Daniel Abraham, Ty Franck and Dan Nowak. Shankar also serves as a showrunner for all seasons.
