The Apple Watch Series 8 models offers the same screen sizes as its predecessors. The sizes are therefore again 41 and 45 millimeters. In addition, they again offer the Always on function, so that the screen is always on. Furthermore, the smart watch has the same processor as last year. Apple has added a thermometer to the hardware as an extra component.
The hardware obviously uses new software. In this case, it’s watchOS 9. This gives you access to brand new watch faces, an improved app for training, and a medication application. However, the real focus of this smartwatch is on women. The thermometer comes in handy here: the Apple Watch Series 8 has two of these sensors.
One sensor is located at the bottom, while the other is incorporated into the screen. This allows the Apple Watch Series 8 to play a role in women’s ovulation cycle. In addition, there is a crash detection. When the Series 8 detects that you have had an accident, for example with the car, the device can contact the emergency services. The device uses the gyroscope for this.
The Apple Watch Series 8 lasts up to eighteen hours on a full battery. But with the Low Power mode you stretch that to 36 hours. In addition, international roaming is available for the first time. Later this year, the Series 8 will be available in two finishes and different colors. The aluminum version is available in midnight, starlight, silver and (PRODUCT)RED, while the stainless steel version is available in silver, gold and graphite.
The Watch Series 8 is available from 499 euros. The smartwatch can be ordered from today and will be delivered from September 16.
Apple Watch SE 2
Apple also took the opportunity to present the Apple Watch SE 2. This model is thirty percent larger than its predecessor and available in the colors silver, midnight and starlight. The price this time starts at 299 euros. This is not only the successor to the first Watch SE, but also the replacement for the Apple Watch Series 3 as the cheapest model you can buy.
Under the hood is a newer processor that is up to twenty percent faster than its predecessor. The Watch SE 2 also offers a blood oxygen meter and an ECG app, so that the focus is on the wearer’s health here too.
Finally: Apple Watch Ultra
And then, finally, we’ll cover the Apple Watch Ultra. This is the Pro model that has been rumored for months. This is the most rigid version of the Apple Watch yet. The device has a battery that lasts 36 hours in normal mode. That number will later be expanded to sixty hours via a software update. All models of the Ultra also have a cellular connection.
You are supposed to use this device during sports, such as diving, mountaineering or more extreme sports. As a result, the colossus has received all kinds of improvements. For example, the microphone and speaker are better and one of the dials offers a compass as standard. The GPS sensor has also improved and is much more accurate than on other models. And by means of a dedicated action button on the hardware, you can switch from sport mode with the push of a button.
The Apple Watch Ultra also has a loud siren of 86 decibels, which you should be able to hear from a distance of about 180 meters. And thanks to the WR100 waterproof rating, the Ultra can withstand heavy pressure underwater, tell you the time and more.
The Apple Watch Ultra has a 49 millimeter titanium shell and a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits. Customers in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States and in more than 40 other countries and regions can order Apple Watch Ultra starting today. They will be in stores from Friday 23 September. The Apple Watch Ultra costs 999 euros.
watchOS 9 will be available on Monday, September 12 for Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models. Requires iPhone 8 or later model or iPhone SE (2nd generation) or later model with iOS 16. Not all features are available on all devices and in all regions.
