The traditional manufacturer Technics has announced two new turntables: the Technics SL-100C, which is primarily aimed at “home users”, and the SL-1200MK7, which is optimized for DJs. The latter comes in the color silver and is otherwise technically the same as the existing black MK7 model.
Technics SL-100C turntable
This new turner from Technics (see large photo above) is – in keeping with the Technics tradition – a direct-drive record player with an iron-core motor. Following a plug-and-play philosophy, it is factory-fitted with a pre-assembled and adjusted magnet system from Audio Technica (VM95C). According to the press release, its conical scanning needle should provide precise scanning and thus acoustic authenticity.
The chassis is two-ply, the tonearm is made of aluminum – also typical for Technics – in a curved S-shape. In addition to a manual tonearm lift, there is also an automatic one – as soon as the record has been played to the end, the tonearm is raised. This feature can be turned off if desired. The Technics SL-100C will be available in stores from the end of June 2021.
Technics SL-1200MK7: DJ turntable
The turntable designed for DJs was presented in January 2019, but is no longer only available in black, but soon also in silver. This direct-drive lathe also comes with an iron-core motor and a two-layer chassis, but has special functions that DJs appreciate and need: These include an option for setting the starting torque and braking speed, a comfortable pitch controller, and reverse play -Function as well as an illumination of the needle for even more safe icing.
The silver SL-1200MK7 will be available from May 2021.
