Sony shows teaser for the arrival of new display technology : MicroLED seems to be the magic word for 2021. All the major manufacturers are known to be working on this display technique, and Samsung announced the first MicroLED televisions for consumers.
Sony has also been working on this technique for a while and has now put a teaser video online with the text “next Sony breakthrough in premium direct-view display technology”. Although there is no mention of a specific technique, it seems likely that it is a MicroLED.
The Japanese manufacturer will hold a press conference at CES 2021 on January 6 and show the world the new display technology. Since the video was published by Sony Professional Solutions, it initially appears to be displays for the commercial market.
The new MicroLEDd televisions have tiny LEDs that represent the sub-pixels and are controlled directly by the tfts. Each (sub) pixel itself emits light and can be switched on or off perfectly. As with OLED, each sub-pixel of a micro LED screen itself emits light. The main advantage of a microLED screen is its high energy efficiency and higher brightness. In addition, the LEDs are not organic, so that they do not deteriorate and burn-in is not possible.
