Sony has started rolling out the Google Assistant for Android TVs in Europe. The first is the United Kingdom, but later this year the Netherlands will also follow.
Since the end of last year, Android TV users in the US can already work with the Google Assistant, Google’s speech assistant, but now comes the assistant also to Europe. Sony has started rolling out the AF8, XF90, XF85, XF80 and XF75 models. Although the Google Assistant is compatible with Android TVs from 2016 and 2017, Sony currently only provides the voice assistant for recent models. At first only for the UK. Then follow France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.
With the Google Assistant it is possible to operate your TV and the smart-connected devices by voice. So you can easily find a movie or series by pressing the microphone button on the remote control and a voice command in the speaking. There is support for 1,500 smarthome devices, of 225 different brands. You can also easily control the lighting or the thermostat.
However, at the moment the Google Assistant does not speak Dutch yet. It is expected that Google will only make this available after the summer.
