A patent from Sony has surfaced that hints at a PlayStation 4 controller without a touchpad, but with a full touchscreen. Such a touchscreen can bring parts of the game to the controller, giving more room for the presentation of such a game.

PlayStation 4 controller with touchscreen to see in patent

This week there is a patent surfaced from Sony in which a PlayStation 4 controller with a small touchscreen is described. The current PS4 controller already has a touch pad with which different things are possible, but such a screen in a controller can actually take over menus and other elements, leaving more room for the game itself on the big screen. And since it is a touch screen, play can also interact and, for example, manage an inventory in a game.

The idea of a screen in a controller is not new. For example, Nintendo released the Wii U with a gigantic GamePad, containing a 6.2 “touchscreen. Sega was already way ahead of his time when the company launched the Dreamcast (this is the general statement for the console) with a controller where gamers could click on a special accessory with a small screen on it. For now we have to wait and see what Sony is planning and will actually announce – but the idea is interesting in any case.
