Sony launched Apple TV : When Sony brought the Apple TV app (with Apple TV + and iTunes movies) to the XH90 model in October 2020, the company promised that other TVs would come soon. That time has now come, because many TVs from 2020, 2019 and the high-end models from 2018 have now received that update. It concerns firmware version v6.4960, which is now being rolled out in Europe.
Sony launched Apple TV app to its TVs
As far as is known, this means that all televisions from 2020 will receive the update. Unfortunately, not all models from 2019 and 2018 can count on the same support. Most televisions from 2019 get the app, but the AG8, XG83, XG81 and XG80 are behind the net. It is also true that only two high-end models from 2018 will receive the same update, namely the AF9 / A9F and ZF9 / Z9F.
With the Apple TV app on your Sony television, you get access to exclusive shows like The Morning Show, See, Defending Jacob and Ted Lasso, as well as the full iTunes movie library (including all 4k and hdr titles) and partner channels. Sony has now confirmed that there is support for 4k hdr and Dolby Atmos (if the TV also has support for it).
Furthermore, the firmware update ensures that the interface of the televisions is more streamlined. Various solutions are also available for known software errors and irregularities. If you have a ZG9 / Z9G, you even get support for 4k at 120 fps via HDMI 2.1.
