Sony announces this week an important update for the HT-ST5000. The HDMI eARC to HT-ST5000 Soundbar is added, the function that allows high-resolution audio formats to be sent back to the soundbar from the TV.

With the new firmware update, the HT-ST5000 becomes the first soundbar with support for HDMI eARC. Thanks to this support, you can now send formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS: X to the soundbar via the TV. This applies to media that is played via streaming services (eg Netflix) as well as equipment connected to the TV (eg a Blu-ray player). However, the TV must also support the eARC function.

In addition, Sony has confirmed that the HT-XF9000 and HT-ZF9 soundbar systems can also expect an update that adds support for HDMI eARC. When these updates are rolled out is not yet known.
