Sony is once again bringing a complete line-up to Sony 2018 OLED and LCD LED TVs to the Netherlands. The Japanese manufacturer introduces two new OLED models in the AF8 series and comes with a large number of LCD LED TVs. The A1 oled TVs that were introduced last year will also be on sale this year. In this article you will find an overview of all models coming to the Netherlands and Belgium.
X1 Extreme processor and various techniques
Sony has more models this year with the X1 Extreme processor. This processor has to lift the images to a higher level, combined with the Object-based HDR remaster, Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR and Dual Database Processing techniques. By analyzing the images in each scene and individually correcting the color and contrast of each object, Object-Based HDR Remaster gives every detail life-like. This technology also upgrades Standard Dynamic Range HD content to near-4K HDR quality. The SDR content is therefore converted to HDR by means of software. On top of the existing database for upscaling, the 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme has an additional Sony database for noise reduction. By searching thousands of image patterns, Dual Database Processing removes unwanted noise.
Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR should, according to Sony, provide a more natural image. Thanks to the 14-bit signal processing, the fixed color strips of 8-bit (FHD) and 10-bit (4K) sources are broken up and converted to 14-bit equivalent shades with 64 times more color levels. Faces, sunsets and other images where shades of color are important, must therefore be reproduced faithfully. 4K X-Reality PRO is also available for a detailed display.
As far as high dynamic range (HDR) is concerned, Sony chooses when we look at the top models for support of HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision. Mid-range series have to do without Dolby Vision. In the field of smart TV, not many changes have been made, although later this year Sony will offer a firmware update with which support for the Google Assistant will be added. This allows you to control the TV with voice, thanks to a microphone in the remote control.
Sony A1 oled TV series
The A1 oled TVs we know from 2017. These TVs have a unique design and come with the Acoustic Surface technique for audio playback. Thanks to this technique, the entire screen resonates with sound that comes directly from the screen itself. This makes a unification of image and sound possible, according to Sony. No use is made of conventional speakers around a standard device.

Sony AF8 series oled tv
The AF8 oled TV series consists of a 55-inch and a 65-inch model. Many features of the A1 series have been taken over by the AF8 series. This model also supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) and is controlled by the 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme image processor. It improves the color accuracy, contrast and brightness according to the manufacturer.
The AF8 offers support for HDR in the form of HDR10, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) and Dolby Vision. Just like the A1, the AF8 is equipped with Acoustic Surface sound technology. Thanks to this technique, the whole screen resonates with the sound waves and the sound comes out of the screen.
Sony has adjusted a bit in terms of design. For example, the AF8 series has a visible foot according to the One Slate design concept. At the rear is a subwoofer included and cable management system that can be folded for wall mounting. The AF8 is equipped with the Android TV operating system from Google. There is also the possibility to view personal content such as videos or photos and to quickly search the internet via TV via Voice Search on the remote control.

The XF90 also offers support for HDR in the form of HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision. The TV is compatible with Android TV from Google and so games and Apps are available through the Google Play Store. Thanks to Google Cast , it’s easy to cast content such as Netflix, Missed Broadcast or YouTube directly to the TV.
