Sonos should launch its own voice assistant in the coming weeks, it knows The Verge . website. Don’t expect a full alternative to Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa, but a voice assistant really for music. The voice assistant Sonos Voice is expected to roll out through a software update to all soundbars and speakers from the manufacturer that run on the S2 software. This unconfirmed announcement is not completely strange, because already in August last year there were rumors that the manufacturer would be working on a own voice assistant.
At launch, you can control music from streaming services such as Apple Music, Amazon Music, Pandora, Deezer, and Sonos Radio. You will have to be patient for YouTube Music or Spotify. That will not be supported at launch. The voice assistant would not record voice commands and share them somewhere on a server. The voice commands are really processed locally. You can call up the voice assistant by saying ‘Hey Sonos’, after which you can give commands for playing and controlling music.
Sonos Voice launches first in US
The voice assistant Sonos Voice would first launch in the United States, according to The Verge, presumably on June 1. An international release would follow, but an exact date is not yet known. By the way, Sonos also comes with an affordable soundbar with the presumed name Sonos Ray. The new soundbar would really be launched as an entry-level model for a price of about 249 dollars and should already be released on June 7th.
