Smoking Xbox Series X models have been popping up on social media for the past few days. We are probably dealing with internet trolls.

Smoking Xbox Series X: False Alarm

When a new console launches, we always have to wait for the first messages from consoles that fail. It is a new product and new products can contain teething problems. That is annoying for the consumer, but also for the company that makes those products. It gets all the more annoying when on launch day you get bothered by pranksters pretending to have a console broken, as it is now. In recent days, reports have appeared online about Xbox Series X models smoking a lot.

For a moment it seemed that such a Series X could spontaneously go up in flames when you are gaming, but nothing could be further from the truth. As it turns out, people blow smoke from a vaper into the back of the device. And the fan at the top blows everything out neatly, as it should, making it look like the Xbox Series X is breaking down. As fun as this may sound, don’t try it yourself at home. The official Xbox account has even responded to the matter and is sending that same message.

Unfortunately, this hoax (or fake news, disinformation) is plausible. Microsoft has suffered from failing Xbox 360 consoles in the past. When a console showed four red stripes on the front of the console in the LED circle, you knew: this thing is broken. This problem has been dubbed the Red Ring of Death and to some gamers it still feels like yesterday. Incidents like that are not easily forgotten, no matter how well a company does its best afterwards. So such posts can be harmful to the image of the Xbox.

In addition, a video has appeared in which we get to see that the fan of the Xbox Series X is able to keep a ping-pong ball high. But here too we are dealing with a hoax. The force of the wind is not strong enough to do this. Fortunately, this is less harmful than blowing smoke into your console, but it is still fake news nonetheless. There will probably be some problems with the new consoles, but so far everything seems to be going well. So let’s just leave out those hoaxes.
