Evolution Kit for older smart TVs

In 2012, Samsung came up with the idea for an Evolution Kit for older smart TVs, a box that allows you to upgrade your older smart TV with new software and hardware. The Evolution Kit also came, with the promise of Samsung to give consumers every year up to and including 2016 the possibility to purchase a new kit.

Unfortunately in 2015 it was already decided not to release an Evolution Kit for full hd TVs and in 2016 no new version appeared at all. This has led to numerous complaints towards the Korean manufacturer. Especially in the US and Norway several buyers of an older Samsung smart TV claim their money back

Samsung has now finally responded to the complaints and has developed a new, 2018 Evolution Kit for older smart TVs as a solution. The new kit is named SEK-4500 and offers users access to the 2018 Smart Hub (Tizen interface). The kit is also compatible with the SmartThings smart home platform, screen mirroring for smartphones, and it comes with the One Remote remote control.

Currently the SEK-4500 is confirmed for Spain, Norway, Denmark and Finland. Whether the kit also comes to the Netherlands is not yet clear. The price has been set at 299 euros. The kit is compatible with the following televisions,
