Samsung announces SmartThings router and hub: Samsung has announced two new products within the SmartThings line: a new router and a new hub for your smart home. The router can also be used as a hub, while the hub cannot be used as a router.

New SmartThings router and hub

New products are coming within the SmartThings line, Samsung’s smart home platform. For example, there is a new router. This is a dual band model sold in packs of three as it is a mesh router . By placing multiple units in your house, you generally get a better internet connection in the house. In addition, there is support for the American Plume, with which bandwidth can be distributed more intelligently at home. There are also, for example, parent settings and guest accounts.

The new router, called SmartThings Wifi, also acts as a smart home hub . This allows you to manage and install all products in-house with support for Samsung’s platform. Those products must support Z-Wave or Zigbee. These smart home protocols, of which there are now many more , are usually not found in routers. As a result, this mesh router can sometimes have an advantage over the competition. The package costs USD 280 in the United States (for three pieces, that is).

Samsung has also announced an independent SmartThings hub. The advantage of this hub is that you can use it wirelessly (so you don’t need an extra cable). So you can place the hub anywhere you want. This hub costs $ 70. Samsung has also announced some new sensors, for leakage, movement and multiple purposes, as well as a programmable button and a smart socket. Unfortunately, it is not yet known when all these products will be available in the Netherlands.
