A smart doorbell for your flat or apartment complex is usually not that useful. The doorbell rings downstairs, after which you can open the door downstairs via your (often old-fashioned) intercom system. There is nothing smart about that and it is certainly not possible from your smartphone. A video doorbell at your actual front door is usually not very useful in an apartment complex. However, Ring now has a solution with the Ring Intercom.
According to the company, you can easily connect the Ring Intercom to your existing intercom system (check the compatibility checker). The device supports different brands and you should be able to install it yourself. Once installed, you’ll have access to two-way communication through your Ring app when the doorbell rings downstairs. Of course you can also open the door downstairs via the Ring app. Also handy if you don’t feel like taking the keys when you walk into the apartment complex. Parcel deliverers can easily walk through this way and put the package in front of your actual front door.
Price and availability
The Ring Intercom is coming to Europe first, not the United States. This is because there are many more apartment complexes here. England and Germany will be next on October 26, after which the smart intercom system will also come to other countries in Europe. The starting price in England is £120.
