JBL Xtreme 2 – Ideal for large parties

The first generation of the JBL Xtreme already convinced in the test with rich bass and detailed highs. However, at high volumes it had to struggle with an unpleasant roar. The latter has disappeared with the JBL Xtreme 2, the very good sound from four drivers and two bass membranes remains. The former provide clearly defined and detailed highs, the latter provide deep and rich bass. Overall, the sound of the it appears crisp and balanced in every music genre, without becoming too flat.

Another plus point is the extreme volume. This speaker can easily fill large rooms with sound and even loud ambient noises outside are easily drowned out. If that’s not enough, you can use the free JBL Connect app to connect two speakers to a stereo pair and thus further improve the sound. This works not only with a second JBL Xtreme 2, but also with the first generation models and the JBL Pulse 3 .

Just hang out

JBL has also come up with a gimmick or two when it comes to equipment and mobility. The Bluetooth speaker is relatively heavy at around 2.4 kilograms, but thanks to the practical carrying strap, the cylindrical speaker the size of a 1.5 liter bottle can be transported without any problems. In addition, it is waterproof according to the IPX7 standard. This means: The speaker can be immersed in water up to a meter deep for a maximum of 30 minutes without damaging the device – ideal for parties by the pool and the sea. Unlike the  predecessor the connections are no longer under an unwieldy zipper, but are easily accessible via a flap on the back. This includes a USB charging connection for smartphones and tablets, a 3.5 mm jack socket and a power connection for charging the box.

JBL Xtreme 2

The Xtreme 2’s 10,000 mAh battery can be fully charged in just under three hours using the latter. The speaker then provides party music for almost 18 hours. For comparison: most of the other Bluetooth speakers in our list of the best  are over after 10 to 15 hours. So the battery life is very good. The price is different: at around 250 euros, the JBL Xtreme 2 is only something for real sound enthusiasts who want excellent sound for hours on the go.

JBL Xtreme 2 – Conclusion

The JBL Xtreme 2 can be described in a nutshell: 2.4 kilograms of concentrated sound power. In the review, the cylinder-shaped Bluetooth speaker outshone almost all of the competition with its loud, but rich and balanced sound. In addition, the boombox is extremely robust and waterproof and offers long battery life of over 21 hours. However, the purchase price is almost as huge as the weight and sound of the speaker.
