Powerwall 2: Tesla solar panel roof

Tesla wants to release a new line of solar panels with integrated batteries. The Powerwall 2 should enable homeowners to replace the entire roof with this technology. The roof is made of textured glass, containing the solar cells that collect the energy, and is hydrographically printed. This means that the roofs all have a unique appearance. Tesla plans to come up with different types of glass, which are more durable than traditional roof tiles.

The different types are Textured Glass Tile, Slate Glass Tile, Tuscan Glass Tile and Smooth Glass Tile. Tesla is making the solar panels in partnership with SolarCity, the company that Tesla owner Elon Musk may acquire in November for a cost of $ 2.6 billion. The Powerwall 2 can store 14 kWh of energy and let users use 5 kW continuously, with a peak of 7 kW. The battery should last ten years. Price and availability are not yet known; the first Powerwall costs about $ 5,500.
