Plex takes and gives
Streaming platform Plex has announced that users will soon find the right subtitles for their content. At the content to be viewed there will be a list of available subtitles from which users can choose; at the moment, these same users must themselves make the effort to find the subtitles. Because half of the user base is located outside the United States, the subtitles will not only be available in English, the company writes in a new blog post.
deaf and hard of hearing can also use special subtitles so that they can better enjoy the available offer. The subtitles do not use the OpenSubtitles metadata and are also not accessible to users. The Plex servers store the subtitles in a special database. Unfortunately, it is still the case that this new search function is only available for Pass Preview owners; it is not yet known when the function will come to everyone.
In addition, Plex has announced that functions are also being removed, such as plugins (which only account for 2% of all users), Watch Later and Cloud Sync. Earlier this month, the company also pulled out the plug Plex Cloud after persistent problems. For the plugins, moreover, the Plugin Directory is removed, but users could still add different functions manually. So that’s good news for the two percent who use it.
