Vincent Teoh, the man behind the YouTube channel HDTVtest, has in an extensive interview talked to Danny Tack, Senior Director of Product Strategy & Planning at TP Vision, about current and future imaging technologies. Tack indicated in the interview that work is already underway on the QD OLED technology and that several prototypes already exist in the innovation center in Ghent.
At the same time, Tack confirms that TP Vision has entered into a partnership with Samsung Display for the supply of QD-OLED panels. Tack indicates that the differences between Samsung’s QD-OLED technology and LG’s WRGB-OLED technology are currently being examined. Based on the strengths and weaknesses of both techniques, TP Vision will determine which techniques will be used in the 2023 and 2024 line-ups.
In addition to technology, marketing must also be considered. Are the differences between the two techniques big enough to apply them in the same line-up and to use QD-OLED as a premium image technology? Sony has already made this choice and has one this year QD OLED top model released alongside various lower positioned ‘normal’ OLED televisions.
