TP Vision presented its latest Philips televisions for 2018 during a press event in Amsterdam today. This year Philips 2018 OLED TV line-up is coming with the top models OLED973, followed by the OLED873 and the OLED803. This brings the number of OLED TVs to five, in 55-inch and 65-inch formats.
Philips 2018 OLED TV
In terms of panel and specifications, the new OLED TVs from Philips are not much in common. However, the OLED873 is a large version (65-inch) of the 9002 series (55-inch) that was released last year. Purely the larger size is therefore new.
All models released this year come with a 4K Ultra HD OLED panel from LG, including HDR playback in the form of HDR10, HLG and the new HDR10 +. The maximum brightness is 900 nits. All 2018 oled TVs also have the P5 Picture Engine introduced last year. The P5 has five processors with sufficient processing power to process the amount of data that Ultra HD image entails. The chip analyzes, deconstructs and controls the five variables that determine image quality: source perfection, sharpness, color, contrast and movement.
Android TV is again the smart TV platform. All models feature Ambilight lighting on three sides and come with the integrated Google Assistant. The Google Assistant enables voice control via the new, slim remote control. This allows you to search content, switch channels and control your smart home devices. There is also a normal remote control, without microphone but with QWERTY keyboard on the bottom, included.
Philips OLED973
The Philips OLED973 is the top model in the line-up and that this is the top model, we see in particular the design and the audio possibilities. This 65-inch OLED TV comes with a foot that also serves as a soundbar. The soundbar is a 6.1-channel system with a power of 60 watts. The system consists of six forward-facing drivers and a rear-facing Triple Ring speaker – with integrated bass speaker. The speaker is equipped with an upholstered front and on the back are all connections of the TV. The soundbar is not detachable, but can be tilted if you want to hang the TV on the wall.
The design of the TV, using glass, aluminum and the European Kvadrat speaker cloth, was awarded the Red Dot Award for European design. The Philips OLED973 has to appear on the market in February or March for a price of 4.499 euros.
