Onkyo launches TX-NR585 and TX-NR686 7.2-channel AV receivers

Onkyo today announced two new, affordable AV receivers. The company introduces the TX-NR585 and TX-NR686. Both models are 7.2-channel AV receivers with support for Dolby Atmos and DTS: X in a 5.2.2-channel configuration.

The Onkyo TX-NR585 has 170 watts per channel (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 1 channel driven, 10% THD) or 80 Watts per channel (8 ohms, 20-20,000 Hz, 2 channels driven, 0.08% THD). The TX-NR686 comes with 210 watts per channel and 100 watts per channel respectively. The TX-NR686 is THX Select certified.

In addition to support for Dolby Atmos and DTS: X, both models come with Dolby Surround and DTS Neural: X upmixing, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Support for high-resolution audio is present in the form of 192 kHz / 24-bit FLAC, WAV, and AIFF; 96/24 ALAC; and 2.8 / 5.6 MHz DSD via your home network or USB. The TX-NR686 also comes with a 384 kHz / 32-bit DAC and VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry).

Both AV receivers feature six HDMI 2.0 inputs and an HDMI output with support for 4K / 60p with HDR (HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG) and BT.2020 color. The TX-NR686 comes with an additional HDMI input on the front and a second HDMI output without HDMI ARC or CEC. There are six analog connections, including a MM preamp, and three digital connections; two optical and one coaxial. There is also a USB port, two line-live subwoofer connections and a headphone connection.

The TX-NR585 and TX-NR686 and can send 2-channel audio to a second zone , after which a 5.2-channel set-up can be used in the main room. As far as wireless support is concerned, we see WiFi, Bluetooth, Apple’s AirPlay, Chromecast and access to streaming services such as Amazon Mysux, Deezer and Spotify. Of course, DTS Play-Fi and FlareConnect are also available for multiroom capabilities.

Price and availability

The Onkyo TX-NR585 has a price of $ 549 in the US received. The TX-NR686 costs 649 dollars there. Prices in euros have not yet been announced.
