It is perhaps the most hyped product of recent months. The Nothing Phone (1), the first smartphone from the new company of OnePlus founder Carl Pei. The official presentation has finally shown the device in full and so we get a good idea of whether the new smartphone actually does something different than all those other brands.
Glyph Interface
What is immediately noticeable about the device is the housing. A transparent back with mechanical design and 900 LEDs. The company itself calls it the ‘Glyph Interface’. Those lights are not just for decoration. The LEDs show who is calling, your app notifications, your charging status and much more. You can set a unique Glyph pattern for contacts or notifications.
Another unique feature is the contribution of the Nothing Ecosystem and Nothing OS (Android). That opens the doors to third party products. This way you can operate your Tesla with the Nothing Phone (1). You can open the doors, switch on the air conditioning and much more via your phone. The smartphone also offers space for your NFT collection.
Back to the specifications then, because internally it is of course an ordinary smartphone with hardware that we also see with other devices. For example, the Nothing Phone (1) is equipped with a 6.55″ HDR10 + OLED screen with a resolution of 2,400 by 1,080 pixels. The screen can display 1 billion colors and has a refresh rate of 120Hz. On board we find the Snapdragon 778G+, 8 GB or 12 GB RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB storage memory. The battery has a capacity of 4,500 mAh and can be charged with 33W wired and 15W wireless.
The Nothing Phone (1) has two rear cameras. A Sony IMX766 sensor of 50 megapixels (f/1.8) and an ultra-wide angle of also 50 megapixels (Samsung JN1) with an aperture of f/2.2. The selfie camera is the Sony IMX471 with 16 megapixels (f/2.4). The device runs on Android and you get three major Android updates and four years of security updates.
Price and availability
The Nothing Phone (1) is available in white and black. The sale will start on July 21, 2022 at 08.00 via the Nothing’s website. The new smartphone comes in the following configurations:
- 8GB/128GB: 469 euros
- 8 GB/256 GB: 499 euros
- 12 GB/256 GB: 549 euros (available at the end of summer)
