Home cinema fans should be pleased: With the AV8805A, Marantz has announced an upgrade of the successful AV8805, which will bring some new features. Conveniently, owners of an AV8805 can also benefit from the new capabilities by exchanging the HDMI / digital card.
Marantz AV8805A: New features and improvements
The new HDMI card is 8K compatible and allows video pass-through at 8K / 60 Hz and 4K / 120 Hz. The new formats HDR10 + and Dynamic HDR are also supported. A QMS (Quick Media Switching) function allows you to switch directly between different frame rates or resolutions without the screen going black in the meantime. What remains is support for HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision – as well as BT.2020 pass-through and 4: 4: 4 pure color subsampling.
Existing HD or 4K content can now also be scaled up to 8K, and gamers, in turn, should be delighted with the option of setting the refresh rate variably and enjoying extra-fast image build-up using the Auto Low Latency Mode and Quick Frame Transport.
Something is also happening on the audio level: Further 3D audio formats are now supported, including Auro-3D, IMAX Enhanced, DTS Virtual: X and Dolby Atmos. With the new height virtualization algorithms, virtual height effects can be achieved even without physical height channels.
Anyone who already owns an AV8805 can get a corresponding hardware and firmware upgrade from authorized dealers for 749 euros – including a new guarantee of two years.
