LG V50 ThinQ is foldable smartphone with optional second screen

Innovation. That seems to be the focus of this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. LG presented its first 5g phone, the LG V50 ThinQ, during its panel tonight. And optionally, as a user, you also have a second screen with that smartphone.

This is the LG V50 ThinQ

The V50 ThinQ is LG’s first 5g smartphone. Just like the 5g devices of LG’s competitors, this variant also works with a Qualcomm X50 5g modem. The smartphone is expected to be ten times as fast as a 4G variant. Then your provider must of course have a 5g network, which will take a while here in the Netherlands.

The new smartphone has a 6.4-inch display with a 19.5: 9 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 855 processor with 6 GB of RAM. There is also 128 gigabytes of storage memory for the user, which is even further expandable. LG also puts a lot of emphasis on the audio: thanks to built-in DTS: X technology, the whole mimics surround sound, so that you must have a nice audio experience.

Five camera lenses

The new LG smartphone does not have three, but five camera lenses. On the back you will find three and two on the front. First the one on the back. First of all, there is a regular 12-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f / 1.5. There is also a wide-angle lens with a 16-megapixel sensor and an aperture of f / 1.9 and a telephoto lens with 12 megapixels and f / 2.4 aperture.

If you like to cut selfies, the LG V50 ThinQ also offers the necessary extras. There is a double camera built in at the front. On the one hand, you have a standard 8-megapixel sensor with f / 1.9 aperture and a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens with an aperture of f / 2.2. This combination allows you to take selfies with a bokeh effect.

Double screen

5g is not the only extra that LG offers with this device. Optionally, you can also choose to provide your device with a second screen. That resembles a phone case and offers you a 6.2-inch OLED screen. The screens can be used independently of each other. So you could watch a movie on one screen and use the internet on the other.

It is not known whether the LG V50 ThinQ will come to the Netherlands. We only expect the first 5g networks here in the course of 2020, so it may take a while before the smartphone is available. A price is also not yet known.
