LG LCD TV line-up 2021 with QNED Mini-LED TVs and NanoCell TVs

LG LCD TV line-up 2021 is equipped with two new technology concepts, QNED Mini-LED TVs and NanoCell TVs.

LG QNED Mini-LED TVs and NanoCell TVs – In addition to new OLED televisions for 2021 , LG has announced new LCD televisions for this year. The South Korean manufacturer is also introducing a new term on the market: QNED. This is reflected in the higher series and means that Mini-LED is used for the backlighting.

LG 2021 QNED Mini-LED TVs

It’s a mouthful, but LG’s top LCD models for 2021 are called QNED Mini LED TVs. QNED stands for quantum Nanocell Mini-LED. We already know the first two parts from previous line-ups, the second part is one of the trends for 2021. The Mini-LED technology is simply an improved version of the LCD LED technology that we have seen in recent years. The LCD screen is as it remains, but the background lighting with this technology consists of thousands of small LEDs (Mini-LED) that can be controlled in very small groups. The advantages of Mini-LED are a higher contrast and a higher brightness. Do you want to know more? Then read us background article about Mini-LED and Micro-LED.

The QNED Mini-LED TVs that LG will bring to the market next year will come in 4K and 8K variants and sizes up to 86 inches. According to LG, the 86-inch model is equipped with 30,000 LEDs and 2,500 dimming zones. This should ensure a contrast of 1,000,000: 1 and a more accurate color reproduction compared to existing LCD TVs. LG releases the QNED televisions as premium LCD televisions, but still keeps the OLED televisions as the absolute top models. After all, these TVs have millions of pixels that emit light and can be controlled.

The QNED99 and QNED95 series have QNED and the 8K resolution, while the QNED90 series comes with QNED and the 4K resolution. The first two models are equipped with the Alpha 9 Gen 4 processor. According to LG, this fourth-generation processor must be more powerful than the third generation and uses ‘deep learning’ to better display all types of content and to optimize the image quality. AI Picture Pro recognizes objects and people on the screen and can separate foreground and background, to give the image more depth and dynamics. Finally, the processor also includes the audio reproduction. Auto Volume Leveling ensures that the volume doesn’t change drastically when switching between apps or channels, while AI Audio Pro can convert audio to 5.1.2-channel virtual surround sound.

The QNED90 models have the slightly less advanced Alpha 7 Gen 4 processor, but do have HDMI 2.1 ports with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), 4K120 (HFR), HDMI eARC and ALLM. The QNED99 and QNED95 series have all these features but not VRR.

NanoCell and webOS 6.0

A step lower this year we see the NanoCell LCD TVs from LG again, of which the NANO99 and NANO95 series have the Alpha 9 Gen 4 processor. These televisions have a standard backlight (not miniled) but do have the NanoCell technology. The NANO90 and NANO85 series also have support for VRR (variable refresh rate) for an optimal gaming experience.

All NanoCell and QNED televisions also come with webOS 6.0, the latest version of LG’s smart TV operating system. The most important change is reflected on the home screen. This used to be a bar at the bottom of the screen, placed over the content you are watching. Within webOS 6.0 the home screen is now a full screen dashboard, called ‘New Home’. The reason behind this full-screen dashboard, according to LG, is that we want to find interesting content faster and faster. With a dashboard that contains a lot of information, LG can offer us films, apps, series and other forms of content faster. This is done based on the viewer’s preferences and viewing history. Part of webOS 6.0 is the Game Optimizer, which is a mode that automatically determines the best image quality for playing games.

New Magic Remote

In addition, LG is introducing a new Magic Remote remote control for its 2021 televisions. Although the remote looks a bit less slick than the previous generation of Magic Remotes, the functionality is the same. You can point to parts on the screen with the remote control and select them with the push of a button. The new remote comes standard with voice control via Alexa or the Google Assistant. Buttons for Netflix, Disney +, Amazon Prima and ‘LG Channels’ have also been added. According to LG, the new remote should also be better in hand than its predecessor. Finally, the remote control has NFC, so that content can be shared from a smartphone with the TV with a simple touch.

Other important features of LG’s 2021 LCD TVs are support for HDR (HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision), support for Dolby Atmos and the presence of Apple AirPlay 2, Google Assistant and the Filmmaker Mode.
