LG 2018 Ultra HD Blu-ray player line-up, with UBK90 and UBK80 models

LG this year brings only two new Blu-ray players to the Netherlands and Belgium, and two Ultra HD Blu-ray players. It concerns the UBK90 and UBK80. The top model is the UBK90, equipped with support for Dolby Vision and two HDMI outputs. Both players must be for sale in the spring.

LG 2018 Ultra HD Blu-ray players

Both the UBK90 and UBK80 is an Ultra HD Blu-ray player that we do not have to count to the higher segment. LG, just like with the UP970, continues to focus on affordable models that are equipped with the most important features and functions. The UBK90 is actually an improved version of the UP970 and is therefore provided with support for Dolby Vision from the factory .

LG UBK90

The LG UBK90 is, as said, the flagship for 2018. This player supports a large number of disc formats, including 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, DVDs and CDs. The player also supports the rec.2020 color space and HDR playback in the form of HDR10 and Dolby Vision. Content in lower resolution can be scaled up to 4K quality. Of course streaming services such as Netflix and YouTube are on board, which can be streamed in 4K and HDR.

In the field of audio there is support for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, LPCM bitstream, Dolby Digital and DTS HD and Dolby TrueHD soundtracks. In terms of music, AAC and Flac files are supported in high resolution. In addition, the player has two HDMI outputs (HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 1.4) so ​​that image and audio can be separated. There is also a USB 2.0 port, you can use the ethernet port and there is WiFi on board.

LG UBK80

If you want an Ultra HD Blu-ray player but do not need a second HDMI output and support for Dolby Vision then the UBK80 is an option. This model is largely the same as the UBK90, but comes without Dolby Vision and that extra HDMI port, with which LG can save a few bucks again. It is striking that LG has also removed the WiFi function. So you have to do it with the ethernet port.

Price and availability

The LG UBK90 and UBK80 Ultra HD Blu-ray players have to come to the Netherlands and Belgium in the spring of 2018 for prices of 249 euros and 219 euros respectively.
