Last week there was a new certificate for home cinema equipment, called IMAX Enhanced . This certificate is a result of a collaboration between IMAX and DTS, and has to bring an even better cinematic experience to the living room. Today, IMAX Enhanced TVs have been announced which carry the certificate.

It is not yet clear what IMAX Enhanced is exactly. In any case, it is a certificate that you as a maker of content or maker of hardware can stick to your product, provided you meet various requirements. One of the requirements for hardware is a special IMAX mode, while 4K HDR films and series need to be optimized for audio and video.

Meanwhile, the first manufacturers have made themselves heard. Sony says that its OLED televisions (the A1, AF8 and AF9) are allowed to carry the IMAX Enhanced certificate. This also applies to the ZF9 and XF900 LCD LED TVs, and various projectors. A special IMAX mode on these devices should ensure that digital remastered IMAX content can be displayed as intended by the filmmaker.

Sound United also has IMAX Enhanced in its arms. Several receivers of Marantz and Denon are labeled, albeit after a firmware update and only on receivers that can control more than 9 channels. In addition, two new Denon receivers are announced that can carry the logo from the box. The big advantage for receivers is still a bit vague at the moment. DTS has indicated that there is a special version of DTS: X mixed by Hollywood studios, so that mix can probably be played by certified receivers.
