The Mate X2 is the successor to the Huawei Mate X. That foldable device was presented exactly two years ago. Last year there was the new intermediate model Mate Xs. This time it is not the outermost screen that is the largest, but rather the inner screen. The new Falcon Wing Design lets you unfold the smartphone like a book with the larger screen on the inside.
The Huawei Mate X2 is actually a phone and tablet in one device. When folded it resembles a regular smartphone. The OLED screen is 6.45-inch and has a resolution of 2,700 by 1,160 pixels with a refresh rate of 90Hz. If you unfold the device, you have a larger screen on the inside. It is not quite a square with a resolution of 2,480 by 2,200 pixels, but the 8-inch screen can almost be called a square.
Collaboration with Leica
The foldable Mate X2 is powered by the Huawei Kirin 9000 chipset and comes with 256 GB or 512 GB storage memory. In terms of cameras, there is once again a collaboration with Leica. There is a main camera of 50 megapixels (f / 1.9), an ultra wide-angle lens of sixteen megapixels (f / 2.2), a zoom lens of twelve megapixels (f / 2.4, 3x optical zoom) and a SuperZoom camera of eight megapixels (f / 4.4, 10x optical zoom). At the front we find a selfie camera of sixteen megapixels (f / 2.2). The battery in the device has a capacity of 4,500 mAh that you can charge with a maximum of 55W Huawei SuperCharge.
Huawei is no longer allowed to use a full version of Android thanks to the trade war between China and the United States. The device therefore runs on EMUI 11.0, which is based on an older version of Android, namely Android 10. The Google apps are therefore not available.
Huawei Mate X2 – Price and availability
Whether and when the Huawei Mate X2 will come to the Netherlands is still unknown. This week launches the new device in China for a price of around 2300 euros in the colors White, Black, Crystal Blue and Crystal Pink.
