Apple HomeKit is already included in a number of IKEA products, but two are now being added. The Trådfri motion sensor and IKEA Trådfri shortcut button both come with support for Apple HomeKit.

If you have one of these products at home, the new firmware will be made available automatically. This is done via the Trådfri-Gateway in firmware version 1.13.21. It may not be available in the Netherlands yet, but it is in the United Kingdom. The firmware would soon be rolled out further around the world, it writes HomeKit Authority.
The shortcut button had been delayed a few times but is now finally available to IKEA customers. Thanks to this button you can set a kind of routine, such as creating a specific atmosphere with lamps. The sensor can be used, for example, to automatically switch on a light in the garage when someone walks past the sensor.
The update comes with another advantage, namely for the Trådfri LED lamp. Thanks to the update, you can now set it in terms of switching on and off. The idea of supporting HomeKit is that you can use Trådfri products in conjunction with Apple products. You can use your Mac, iPhone or iPad to use IKEA devices, but also the smart assistant Siri. If you don’t have Apple products, the new HomeKit support is less interesting. However, you can use Home Smart or Google Assistant for IKEA’s smart product line.
It is striking that this HomeKit support is possible, while this support for the Fyrtur or Kadrilj roller blinds is still not being rolled out in Europe. This update is live in the United States, but IKEA is running into problems in Europe. However, it is unknown exactly what these problems entail. The Scandinavian furniture giant did put a new Trådfri product on the market a few weeks ago, namely colored spots with GU10 fitting.
