According to the rumors, the eighth and last season of series will only premiere in April next year, but the first season of Game of Thrones will be released on Ultra HD Blu-ray this summer.
Game of Thrones on Ultra HD Blu-ray
HBO has scheduled the 4K release of the first season for June 5 this year. HBO always releases series via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, so chances are that the release will also come to the Netherlands. Unlike Disney, for example, Warner Bros still regularly gets Ultra HD releases to the Netherlands. For example, the HBO series Westworld was released here in the Netherlands by Warner on Ultra HD Blu-ray. The Game of Thrones season has been provided on the reissue by Warner with high dynamic range Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The first series was previously released by Warner as regular Blu-ray with added Dolby Atmos, but this release can soon be exchanged for real 4K release.
Edit: HBO has released the Dutch release date of the release recorded on June 6, one day after the American release.
Of course the first season does not contain gigantic large action scenes, everyone will remember the scene in which Tyrion is knocked out and only wake up after the battle, but hopefully after the first season the other seasons will also be released in 4K. In addition to the ten episodes, the box set also contains a lot of bonus material. There is a complete (animated) guide through the history of Westeros, a making of the episode A Golden Crown, the first auditions of then still very young actors like Sophie Turner and Kit Harington, a look at the opening credits, a conversation with author George RR Martin and screenwriters Dan Weiss and David Benioff, plus audio commentary with the cast and crew for seven episodes.
