Google Stadia is now almost a year old and a lot has changed in the last year. The game streaming service is still not what Google once envisioned, and has already shown us, but step by step we will get there. Consider, for example, the rolled out Google Assistant support or the Crowd Choice option, with which streamers can let viewers participate in decisions about choices to be made. Now another feature has arrived that many subscribers have been eagerly anticipating for months: the option to share games with family members.

With a Google account it is possible to create a family group. People within that group can then share purchased content, so that children do not have to watch a movie when parents have already done so, for example. From now on, this also applies to the games you purchase on Google Stadia. The rollout has only just begun, so it may take a while for that feature to reach you. You can check this yourself by going to the Stadia website , log in there with your Google profile and choose the Family option under Settings.

If you can activate the option, you will see the screen below.

To make use of this, you obviously need a family group. You can create this under your Google account settings. You also need to add a payment method that everyone can use. Google has deliberately chosen this, so that you only share an account with the people you trust and not just do this with a group of unknown people.

You can choose to share your entire library, including additional content, with your family, but you can also make a specific selection. You can even share Pro games with Google accounts that don’t have a Google Stadia Pro subscription. Unfortunately, only one member of the family can play a game at a time. So if you want to play online together, you must have bought the game per account.
