Google takes another attempt to penetrate your living room, namely with the Google Nexus Player. The Nexus Player is the first device to run on Android TV , a platform first announced in June. With the box you can not only stream movies, series and music, you can also play Android games on it. It even supports some Chromecast features, which may mean that Google offers a complete package this time when it comes to your living room setup. Until now, Google has only been successful with the Chromecast HDMI dongle.

The Nexus Player is made in collaboration with Asus. Google even indicates that it is possible to start playing an Android game on your television, after which you can continue playing it on your smartphone when you are no longer behind your television. Google does not explain exactly how that works, but that may be via a cloud storage service. The Nexus Player runs on a modified version of Android 5.0 Lollipop and is immediately Google Cast Ready . That means that you can link almost all Android and iOS devices with the setup box, eliminating the need for the Chromecast.

Price and availability

The Google Nexus Player can be pre-ordered from Google from October 17 and costs $ 99. The device will be released in North America on November 3. It is not yet known when the Nexus Player will come to the Netherlands. The device will probably cost 99 euros. If you want a taste of what is possible with such a device, you can already purchase a Chromecast dongle for about 35 euros.
