Prior to the MWC 2019, Huawei has presented the foldable Mate X. The device with flexible OLED screen will receive 5G support. Last Friday a photo of a banner of the Huawei Mate X leaked out. This is the foldable smartphone of the Chinese company. Huawei has just officially presented the Foldable Huawei Mate X in Barcelona, prior to the Mobile World Congress 2019. The device is characterized by the flexible OLED screen, 5G support and the Falcon Wing Design.

Foldable Huawei Mate X – Smartphone and tablet

The Huawei Mate X has an 8-inch screen when folded out. This actually makes the device a small tablet. When folded, you have a smartphone with a 6.6-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9 and a resolution of 2,480 by 1,148 pixels. You can also continue to use the screen that is folded at the back. This 6.38 ″ screen will have an aspect ratio of 25: 9 with a resolution of 2,480 by 892 pixels. A fairly long and narrow screen, but the cameras can also be found on this side. Once unfolded, you have a tablet with an aspect ratio of 8: 7.1. The 8 ″ screen has a resolution of 2,480 by 2,200 pixels. A screen notch (notch) is completely absent.

The device is slightly thicker on one side. Unfolded, you have a sturdy and stable design for one hand, but once collapsed, the display disappears right next to the thicker part. This gives you a smartphone without strange bulges, but just a really smooth device in terms of shape. The company calls this the Falcon Wing Design. When opened, the screen is 5.4 millimeters thick. When folded, the smartphone is 11 millimeters in thickness. The device will be available in the color Interstellar Blue.

4,500 mAh battery capacity with Huawei SuperCharge

The Huawei Mate X has a 2-in-1 power button. This means that you can not only switch the device on and off with this button, but that the button also serves as a fingerprint sensor. In terms of cameras, the company has again opted for a collaboration with Leica and the foldable screen allows you to use both the front and rear camera at the same time and discover new film and photography possibilities. The Mate X has a battery with a capacity of 4,500 mAh. The device actually has two batteries (one on the left and one on the right), which together have a capacity of 4,500 mAh. Thanks to 55W Huawei SuperCharge, the device is 85 percent full within 30 minutes.

Specifications, price and availability

The Huawei Mate X gets support for 5g thanks to the 7nm 5G modem chipset Balong 5000, which the company says is the fastest 5g modem at the moment. You should be able to download a gigabyte in three seconds. There is also support for dual sim (or a sim card and micro sd card). The foldable smartphone will appear in mid-2019. The device with a Kirin 980 processor, 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage memory will be priced at EUR 2,299. The price will undoubtedly be swallowing. The device is therefore certainly not feasible for everyone, but in the future, the prices of foldable smartphones will hopefully soon drop.
