Google Stadia available on iOS

The beta for Google Stadia on iOS became last month announced by Google and is now available. This means that everyone with or without a subscription and a mobile Apple device can now enjoy the game offer on Google’s game streaming service. With Stadia Pro you get monthly access to free games, while you are also able to purchase individual games.

Google, like many other companies behind game streaming services, uses the Safari mobile browser as an access point to the game streaming service, due to its limitations that Apple imposes. Due to those restrictions, Stadia cannot be made available in its original form in the App Store, because, for example, every game must have its own store page and also be available for purchase separately. You can visit the Google Stadia website via the browser or set a shortcut for your home screen, which turns the service into a progressive web app.

If you are not yet familiar with Google Stadia and want to try the service without having to pay, you can. The game streaming service, unlike Nvidia Geforce Now and the upcoming web version of Microsoft’s xCloud, has free-to-play video games. These are games that you can stream and play at no extra cost. These are the titles Destiny 2 and Super Bomberman R. In the future there will be more games that you can play for free via the service. Registering is also simple: if you have a Gmail account, you only have to log in.

You control the games with a Google Stadia, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One controller. For the time being, it is only possible to use wireless controllers, although there are also gamers who have already managed to use a wired version. If you don’t have controllers, the service also offers touchscreen operation. But if years of mobile gaming taught us anything, it’s that such controls aren’t ideal.
