The Walt Disney Company has released more information about Disney +, the company's video streaming service. In addition, various American media received a demonstration, which gives us a good impression of what the service entails. Disney Plus
During the annual D23 Expo of Disney, the company announced more about Disney +, the upcoming video streaming service that will be launched in the Netherlands on November 19 and costs € 6.99 per month. We now know that from the launch of the service you can watch around five hundred films and more than 7,500 different serial episodes. This includes all kinds of new releases, such as the new Star Wars series The Mandalorian, but also films such as Captain Marvel and the Pixar library.
In addition to of course the growing library of unique content, Disney wants to make sure that Disney + will soon distinction with curated content. As with other streaming services, the recommendations must become personal. The service uses both algorithms and human curators for this. For example, if you watch Star Wars a lot, you will be presented with other Star Wars content. But you also see what other people with the same interests have looked at and found great.
The interface of Disney + Disney Plus
The Walt Disney Company wants it especially keep it very simple regarding the Disney + interface. Many other streaming services can sometimes feel like a messy gang and that has to do with two things: the amount of content and the way that content is presented. For example, Netflix has many more shows and films than Disney + initially has, which are presented in sometimes randomly sounding categories. Disney + will offer the content in various ways.
In this way, we can at least expect sub-menus for Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, National Geographic and of course Disney. These menus include all films and series that go with it, so that you actually have a special environment for each area of interest. This way you will encounter little content that you may not be interested in. All content can come together in a special row containing the aforementioned recommendations, so that as a Star Wars fan you can come into contact with, for example, Guardians of the Galaxy.
At the top of the screen there is room for what Disney itself really matters finds. You can see cinema films here, but also original Disney + content. Netflix does this for example: when you open the app, you will immediately see new or important releases at the top. In addition, important Disney properties, such as the American animation series The Simpsons, also get plenty of room on the service. When you click on it you get an overview of the seasons and you can choose an episode.
Pages for films and series Disney Plus
When you press one of the buttons for the different click hubs (the submenus), then you will be greeted with an animation that matches the content. If you then scroll through the content and stay stuck with a film or series, you will see a short clip that you might be able to convince to watch. When you finally select a movie, for example Avengers: Endgame, you will see a short synopsis, as well as all kinds of extra things and of course the content that looks like it. In this case it can be Avengers: Infinity War.
We can also expect a section in which all Disney + Originals appear, such as Star Wars series The Mandalorian and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, both starting from 12 November. Disney + also offers various profiles, up to seven, such as a child profile. Within that profile, content is offered based on characters, such as Mickey Mouse or the various princesses. Within your own profile you will of course receive recommendations on your own viewing behavior and ratings.
The mobile app from Disney + will offer offline downloads, so that you can watch the series and films on the road, without internet. This is unlimited: everything that is offered can be downloaded. The only limit is the amount of space you have on your smartphone or tablet. The content is offered in 4k, high dynamic range and with Dolby Atmos support. In addition, you can, for example, start watching on your Xbox and continue on your mobile phone while on the move.
