Disney Plus has rolled out a new feature that allows you to watch the same content online together on the video streaming service.
Watch online together on Disney Plus
The pandemic is not going anywhere for the time being, not as long as there are still people flouting guidelines and measures. This makes it more difficult for everyone to meet up with friends and family. Watching a movie together while everyone is sitting on the couch and eating chips is therefore not (often) possible anymore. Various video streaming services therefore offer extra functions to compensate for the lack of viewing together. This can be done via various plug-ins for Google Chrome, but it is also possible via the video streaming services themselves.
One of the video streaming services that offers such a feature is Disney Plus. In the United States, the company is rolling out GroupWatch. With GroupWatch it is possible to watch the same content online together. You don’t have to worry about starting the video at exactly the same time. By means of a special button you share a link to the content, which is being played on all screens at the same time. You can add up to six people to the stream, but they must all have a subscription to the service.
You can create a link via the web or the mobile app, but in principle anyone can watch on any platform where the Disney Plus app is available. Once the session has started, everyone can watch, pause, fast forward and rewind.
The feature was launched as a test in Canada, Australia and New Zealand in September. Now the function is also made available in the United States. Before the end of the year, GroupWatch is also coming to other countries where Disney Plus is available. If all goes well, the Netherlands should be next in the autumn.
