BOE is a major Chinese manufacturer of displays in all resolutions and formats. The company has been innovating for years and showed a new prototype last week during SID Display Week 2023 in Los Angeles. It is a 110-inch LCD television with a resolution of 16K. This amounts to 15,360 by 8,640 pixels or 132.7 million pixels. That is four times as sharp as an 8K television and sixteen times as sharp as a 4K television.
Still, the resolution is the only exciting thing about this model. It is a simple IPS LCD screen with a 60Hz refresh rate, a 1,200:1 contrast ratio, and a maximum brightness of 400 nits. That’s not something that stands out from the competition today. BOE, therefore mainly wants to show where we are going or could go, in the field of resolutions. However, it will be years before that happens because, mainly due to the lack of 8K content, 8K televisions are currently not getting a foothold.
