In this overview we discuss the best games that will be released this spring. In this section, attention is given to Monster Hunter: World and Lost Sphear.
Monster Hunter: World
Monster Hunter is a series that has existed for years. It is very Japanese in the sense of a lot of preparation, doing a lot of the same tasks and getting a high pay-off for it. But because of the many grinding (constantly performing the same tasks) the series never really hit the west. That is now changing with the release of Monster Hunter: World. Also in this game, you’ll be in the skin of a hunter who is tasked with defeating the most feared monsters in the country. You do that with a large number of weapons and other possibilities.
During your adventure you also have to work strategically. After your preparations, it is unfortunately not the case that you can walk down on a monster and just stand heeling; you also have to take into account the environment and everything you find there. You can use a lot of things to your advantage, making it worthwhile to explore the environments before you start the fight. In the beginning this concept can be quite overwhelming (“Where am I supposed to start?”), But World is a lot more accessible than previous titles.
The game now puts a lot more out than in previous parts and also shows where you have to go, so you can start playing with less experience. Let it come over you and you will be in combat situations in no time at all and you say so. There are few feelings as good as taking down a giant monster that makes your life miserable. A comparison with a series like Dark Souls is made too fast: it goes beyond that and it feels very good.
Keep in mind that the game is huge and that you can do a lot of missions. Moreover, there are also many gameplay mechanics that you have to take into account and that can, as said, sometimes be too much. It takes a lot of time to get used to all systems and to master them. But by emphasizing the big battles, and offering them right from the start, Monster Hunter: World convinces new players in particular. Old players return in a warm nest.
Lost Sphear
In the game Lost Sphear, from the same makers as I am Setsuna, we end up in a world where an old force threatens to destroy life as we know it. A young man gets the job to solve this problem. You as a player get into the role of the protagonist while you are immersed in the beautiful world. The game is released on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, so you can play it at home or on the go. Graphically, the games do not differ, so do not let that be a factor in your consideration.
Lost Sphear is a Japanese role playing game from the book. The title contains many elements that you encounter in other Japanese RPGs, but that does not mean you have to skip the game. Lost Sphear offers a world where you can lose yourself, despite all the clichés you encounter. In addition, there is a deep combat system and you can also play parts again, which fans of the genre will undoubtedly be happy with. We played the game on the Nintendo Switch and that is an ideal match.
The developer has proven with Lost Sphear that it can learn from his mistakes, but that does not mean that it is a perfect game. There is still room for improvement, especially in the area of the dungeons. The game still has its lesser sides, but that does not mean that it offers a fine, traditional and yet fresh experience within the jrpg genre. If you have never played Japanese role playing games (think of older Final Fantasy’s, Dragon Quests, etc.), then Lost Sphear will not change that either.
Dragon Quest Builders
If you are familiar with the Dragon Quest series, you know that there is often a development that threatens to destroy the world and you will then have the task of saving everyone. For Dragon Quest Builders, the story has been made milder, but the problem is still very big. Generations ago people were stripped of the possibility to build things themselves, forcing them to live in the ruins of a once beautiful society. Yes, until you come around the corner, of course.
Dragon Quest Builders is in fact a combination of light role playing game elements (from Dragon Quest) and modern gameplay from Minecraft. You are given the task of bringing the power of creation, of course given by the goddess herself, back to the people. With your buildings you have to show the wonders of imagination. And you do that in a beautifully designed and designed, but above all charming world. You have a hard task to accomplish, but the game does not feel very heavy for a while.
The game is a nice port of the PlayStation 4 version released in 2016. Because of the nature of the game, we even want to claim that this is the best version you can play; the game lends itself to short pots and that is always possible, wherever you want, on the Nintendo Switch. Dragon Quest Builders is a delightful, but also light RPG with a lot of building elements and has an art style where you can lose yourself. Do you like Minecraft, but would you rather play without the multiplayer and with a story? Then Builders is for you.
Dragon Ball FighterZ
Dragon Ball is completely back. We have been enjoying the new Dragon Ball Super series for years (and can not wait for the upcoming movie) and have played a lot with recently released Dragon Ball games in recent months. XenoVerse 2 is a good game, but was mainly a repetition of moves. Dragon Ball FighterZ (pronounced as fighters ) therefore takes a different tack and introduces a 2d combat field with hand-drawn characters and really true wonderful animations.
The fighting game was developed by Arc System Works, the developer who has been making furore with the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue series for years, and shows what it can do with the Dragon Ball franchise. Not only do we get lightning fast action and fights that are exciting until the last moment, we also get a number of modes in which we can indulge. There is a story mode, consisting of multiple stories, an arcade mode and of course an online mode. Would you prefer to practice first? No problem.
For the first time in the series, you get access to three fighters at the same time. You can also switch between the characters whenever you want, leaving you with a deep combat system. In spite of this, Dragon Ball FighterZ does not have any ridiculous button combinations to perform cool attacks and can also handle the less fast fighters with this title. It looks very nice and smooth and the gameplay is deep and accessible: this is the best Dragon Ball fighting game to date.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is an open-world game within role playing games and games. action adventure genre. You crawl into the skin of Henry, a simple blacksmith who has to live with the fact that his family was brutally murdered. He decides to take revenge on the person responsible for this: Emperor Sigismund. Meanwhile, another dilemma is taking place. The old king is dead and the heir is not strong enough to defend the crown. The same emperor kidnaps the king and plunders the lands of the subjects.
That is only the beginning of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. As you progress, things come into view that you might have seen coming – but because the effect is of high quality and quite mature, we find it less bad. That said we should also mention that this is not a game for every rpg enthusiast. The steering feels incredibly stiff but realistic. So it can literally take hours before you have your own sword under control, but that is part of the charm.
The game also keeps reminding you that you still have a lot to learn. You are only a small part of this medieval machine and you will know that too. The world is hard, for everyone. This does not mean that you can lose yourself in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, thanks to the beautiful graphics and typical environments. This game is somewhat like an Elder Scrolls game, but without imagination and a lot harder. There are still some bugs to be found, unfortunately, which hopefully will be dealt with quickly.
Secret of Mana
We would not have been here without the Super Nintendo. That console has a lot of good games to its name. No lack of platformers like Super Mario and RPGs like Final Fantasy. Publisher Square Enix, then simply called Square, also released the hit Secret of Mana at the time. A revolutionary RPG that could allow things to escalate through small, almost meaningless things with time travel elements. But not only that: the graphics were of a high level and the combat system was – then still unique.
It is not surprising then that many gamers of yesteryear, or RPG lovers of all ages, eagerly awaiting the reissue of the game, which from the ground up has been rebuilt for the PlayStation 4. This time the game is completely 3d, but you can still enjoy the same story, with its same twists and exciting elements. As a result, there may be fewer surprises for old gamers (you have undoubtedly forgotten something), but no players are waiting for an adventure that will stay with them for a long time.
That said, of course, we must remain honest. There are some problems with the game that have not been solved. Moreover, problems that have been resolved have given way to new peculiarities. For example, the AI does not always cooperate and the level of difficulty can suddenly be frustratingly high (but perhaps we are not used anymore nowadays). Despite these negatives, this is still the game you played as a child, but with the charm of a modern title and in a colorful jacket.
Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2
The games Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 are all but new. The first part was previously released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, while part two and a reissue of part one were released for the Nintendo Wii U. That means that a man and a half of a head have consciously seen these releases – so it’s time for a new reissue of part one and the first reissue of part two, but of course on the Nintendo Switch. Play Bayonetta in the train or in the car; there are few things as cool as that.
Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 are two of the best action games ever made. The games fall within the hack and slash genre, a genre in which you hit knobs at lightning speed and do as much damage as possible to the enemies in the picture. But do not be mistaken, simply by button bashing (very quickly pressing random buttons) you will not get there; you have to pay attention at all times to what you are doing and to whom you are fighting. In the meantime you enjoy the fast-paced gameplay in sixty frames per second (and unfortunately also a resolution of 720p, but soit).
Because the games were already good and at that time already well assessed, we can not do anything other than this one now recommend games (unless you really do not like hack and slash). Playing Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 on the go is an incredible experience; we are accustomed to the fact that we can play console games on the move, but these titles just cause astonishment again. Bayonetta 3 has already been announced, so now is the time to see why everyone is so enthusiastic.
Shadow of the Colossus
In Shadow of the Colossus, the second reissue of the PlayStation 2 title, enter you a world full of Colossi (sixteen to be precise). You are given the task of taking down these beings so that you can revive your loved one again – regardless of the sacrifice you have to make. In gameplay terms this means that you have to climb on big animals and track down their weak spots. You have to hit them where it hurts to take them down. Usually the biggest weak spot is in a place that is difficult for you; that is the challenge.
On paper the game does not sound like a very interesting title; but that changes during play. Then you discover much more about the dejected ruins and the imposing Colossi who live there and you might also learn something about yourself. Although the game is about bringing to life someone you love, it is also about death, faith, your desire and in fact the destructive egoism of sadness. That sounds pretty intense, but when you knock down a Colossus that has a lot of impact.
That makes a game like Shadow of the Colossus very unique, even with its third release. Support for high resolutions and high dynamic range certainly contribute to this. If you have never played the game before, then this is definitely the version you need to get in the house. That said it may be that the control, and thus the gameplay, feels rough, but that’s just how this game works. You can get used to it and you can get annoyed by it, but we do not believe that this is the reason not to play this title.
Metal Gear Survive
You can see Metal Gear Survive as an alternative storyline after Metal Gear Solid V. Then you may have some trouble with the design of the game and you can not appreciate it for what it is. When you look at Metal Gear Survive as an independent title that has the name Metal Gear attached to it, with its complete history, it is suddenly a completely different story. Konami cleverly uses a beloved series of games, but that can now also cost the game – fans of the series do not seem to accept this move.
And that’s a shame . Whatever you want to call the creature, Metal Gear Survive is a fascinating survival game in which you have to do a number of things. You have to stay alive for example by eating and conserving your energy, you have to build and maintain a base and you have to beat hordes of enemies, alone or with your friends in a co-op mode, to protect yourself and your base. Of course you also have to go out to collect stuff you can eat and live and build with and that’s what makes the game exciting.
The game can be quite spicy at times; your energy is quickly empty, you are quickly hungry and the stuff never lasts. You can see that as a disadvantage, but when everything succeeds and goes well, it can also provide a satisfying feeling. No, it is not a Metal Gear title, even though it looks like that, but it is a strong spin-off. Apart from the existing criticism, it is also a pity that the only one of the game is aimed at sneaking, while that gameplay part does not really come into its own. And there are unfortunately also some weird micro transactions.
