Asus launches mesh solution: the HiveSpot and HiveDot routers

Asus launches mesh solution: More and more manufacturers come up with a so-called mesh solution in which various routers are placed in the house and together form a large and stable home network. After Google and Netgear, among others, Asus now also comes with its own mesh solution; the HiveSpot and HiveDot routers.

The smart home is becoming increasingly full of devices that are connected to the internet, and the number of mobile devices per family is also increasing. It is therefore time to get the network in your home more stable and, above all, to get good coverage. The new HiveSpot and HiveDot routers from Asus can form such a network. You need a minimum of three and a maximum of copies for a covering network.

You can use Asus’s HiveSpot and HiveDot routers as a dedicated router or as an extender. With the latter option, you can place an extra copy in the attic, for example, so that you also have a fast and comprehensive network there. The HiveSpot is the more powerful variant of the two. This is a triband ac2134 router with an extra 5GHz band that allows communication between the various nodes  up to a speed of 867Mbit / s. The HiveDot is an ac1300 dual band router with support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Both routers can be set via a corresponding application. For example, it is possible to indicate via parental control when the network may be used and by which devices.

Asus’ HiveSpot and HiveDot routers are expected to hit the market in the second quarter of 2017. A pack of three HiveSpots is priced at $ 400 in the US, while the HiveDot costs $ 300 per three. Prices for the Dutch market have not yet been announced.
