If we are to believe the latest rumors, Apple has worked (briefly) on an Apple TV dongle behind the screen. This dongle would then be used in the fight against the Google Chromecast and Amazon Fire TV Stick.
Apple TV in the form of a dongle – rumor
The Information writes that Apple behind the scenes the possibilities for a Apple TV dongle has discussed. This dongle could then compete with the Google Chromecast and Amazon Fire TV Stick and be used for a broader implementation of the company’s upcoming video streaming service. Moreover, with such a device, Apple could also reach people in the lower segment of the market; people who do not want to spend more than a hundred euros on such a device.
The Apple TV dongle would then be plugged into the usb and hdmi ports of a television, after which users would get content via a smartphone (probably than just an iPhone) can cast. It could also be that the tvOS is installed on the dongle. It is not yet known whether Apple has actually developed or will release the product. Of course, companies often work products that never see the light of day, but this could well be a striking move from Apple.
