Android TV interface resembles Google TV through update

The new update will make it possible to Android TV interface resembles Google TV change the appearance of the operating system for televisions

Android televisions will soon look more like Google TV televisions. This is due to an update in the software that makes Android TV interface resemble that of Chromecasts Google TV like two drops of water. It should give a new, fresh look to the operating system that has been around since 2014.

Android TV

The most recent major update for Android TV was 4 months ago in September 2020. Now there is a new one that will mainly change the appearance of the operating system for televisions. For example, carousels are added that allow you to see featured content by scrolling. These are at the top of the menu, giving way to the large icons we now know about simpler tabs.

There are three tabs in the new Android TV menu, so it won’t be exactly the same as Google TV. The three tabs are: Home, Apps and Discover. Home is for quickly going to apps and channels, under apps you will find your applications and Discover is for discovering new content. Series and films are recommended here based on what you watched before. So it is more or less like you have ‘Explore’ or ‘For You’ on certain social media.

Google TV

So there is no library section as a shortcut menu, which takes you quickly to content that you have purchased. That is a shame, because that is precisely what is made more important with Google TV. So there are noticeable differences between Android TV and Google TV, but the two are increasingly the same. This begs the question of whether it is necessary for Google’s two television operating systems to co-exist.

The update is currently rolling out in the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, and France. More countries will follow in the following weeks, so hopefully it will be the turn of the Netherlands and Belgium.
